Takaka is located at the western end of the Abel Tasman National Park and the Kahurangi National Park.

The Golden Bay region is an unforgetable experience with the unspoiled coastline and the rugged wilderness of the Kahurangi National Park. Kahurangi is known for its rugged country and the home to a wide range of flora and fauna. There are good tracks including the Heaphy Track through to Karamera on the West Coast and the Wangapeka.
