Tulihal International Airport (IATA: IMF, ICAO: VEIM) also known as Imphal Airport is situated 8 km south of Imphal, the capital of Manipur, India. It is the sole international airport in the state. The airport is served by regional commercial airlines and chartered aircraft and is also used for general aviation. It is situated at a height of about 2,542 ft, with a 9,022 ft long asphalt runway.

History

During World War II the airport was not actually the present Imphal which is 45 kms from the former Imphal RAF Station, a major allied supply airfield. The Allied forces could fly men, equipment and supplies into the airstrips at Imphal so although cut off by land, the town was not without a lifeline. Allied aircraft could also parachute ammunition, rations and drinking water to the encircled combat units during the Battle of Imphal, when Japanese forces attempted to invade India, but were driven back into Burma with heavy losses.
