Egilsstadir
Airport is the nearest airport in Iceland to Europe, 100-200
miles closer than Iceland's main international airport Keflavik depending
upon route. Built as a reserve facility for Keflavik, Egilsstadir Airport
has been recently upgraded with a 2,000 m long and 45 m wide runway, plus
state-of-the-art air traffic control and landing systems. Climatic conditions
for air transportation are excellent at Egilsstadir. At present, Egilsstadir
only handles international charter flights, not schedules.
It is linked to Reykjav’k with 3-4 flights a day.
