Lolland Falster Maribo Airport

In 1965 Maribo and Rodby councils established an airfield to the east of Rodby and south adjacent to Holeby with a grass runway 30m wide x 650m long.

Later on, in 1973 a project was set up jointly by the councils of Holeby, Maribo, Nysted, Rodby and Sakskobing to build an asphalt runway of 30m wide x 980m long complete with lighting to enable 24 hour day operations. Further improvements were made in 1978 with the installation of radio navigational aids for bad weather operations.

Progressing to 1984 the asphalt runway was extended to 1200m long there by greatly enhancing the airports utilisation. At the same time Storestroms Amt agreed to partake with 1/3 of the airport running costs and thus the airport gained the status of regional airport of storestroms Amt.

Lolland Falster airport is now equipped to handle nearly all categories of aircraft both jet and piston with a capacity of up to 40-50 passengers. For many years past and up to the present day some 10-12000 operations per year have been recorded..

Lolland Falster airport has proved to be an ideal location for foreign traffic as a place to visit or a refuel/lunch stop enroute to other destinations.

An active flying club, glider club and parachute club are among the numerous activities that now take place at Lolland Falster airport.
