Mildura Airport

Mildura Airport Mildura is strategically located between Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and is situated on the mighty Murray River in North Western Victoria. Mildura's prosperity is largely due to the fact that it sits at the centre of one of Australia's largest fruit bowls.

The Airport is located on the Sturt Highway approximately 10 kilometres south west of Mildura City. The surrounding region encompasses the townships of Merbein, Irymple, Red Cliffs, Nangiloc, Ouyen and Werrimull in Victoria and Wentworth, Dareton, Buronga and Gol Gol in NSW.

There is a diversity of agricultural and horticultural activities in the Mildura region as well as an abundance of sunshine. The region also offers the traveller a range of things to see or do with a huge range of accommodation available to suit all requirements. There is a diverse range of quality sporting venues and facilities available. The Staff of Mildura Visitor Information & Booking Centre at the Alfred Deakin Centre are happy to provide more details on local tourist attractions and accommodation bookings. Telephone (03) 5021 4424

The Mildura Airport is owned and operated by the Mildura Rural City Council and serves a community in excess of 50,000 people. The population is steadily increasing and business and tourism are developing rapidly.

Essential fast access to capital cities is achieved by the reliable prop jet aircraft which regularly service the Mildura Airport. Approximate flight times are one hour to Melbourne and Adelaide and two hours to Sydney.

Mildura Airport is the busiest regional airport in Victoria in regard to passenger movements. In excess of 110,000 passengers used the facility in 1998 taking advantage of the regular daily flights which provide direct access to Melbourne, Sydney Adelaide and Broken Hill.

There are two flying schools operating from the Airport as well as aircraft charter operators and aircraft maintenance facilities. General aviation is well catered for with a separate terminal facility and aircraft parking areas.

Mildura Airport has two sealed runways illuminated for night operations. The main east/west runway has been recently upgraded to allow operations of larger type aircraft up to Boeing 737 jet standard. The runway asphalt surface is 45 metres wide and 1,830 metres long with additional sealed stopways and gravel runway end safety areas.

Mildura Airport is equipped with an excellent range of navigational aides for pilots, including T-VASIS, DME, VOR, NDB and rotating beacon. A significant Bureau of Meteorology facility is also at the Airport.

The Airport has a neat and tidy appearance as you approach from air-side or land-side and there are plans to continually enhance and upgrade this important gateway to Mildura and the Murray Outback Region.

The Airport is of enormous benefit to the Mildura region, essential for the promotion of economic growth. Passenger numbers are steadily increasing at a growth rate in excess of 10% per annum. To accommodate this positive growth, the airlines are regularly increasing their frequency of service and it is expected that larger aircraft will be utilised in the near future.

There are excellent opportunities available for the development of air-freight facilities and other Airport related industries which require direct access to the jet standard facilities at Mildura.
